Proposals under review
A) Creating a hybrid, thinktank, citizen movement, and media unit for healthcare awareness
We are trying to create a taskforce of physicians, scientists, and citizens for on ground evaluation of challenges and their solutions. The understanding will be communicated through media channels, which will act as revenue mechanisms, providing long term sustainability of the project.
The essence of our idea
A better media and an on ground citizen-expert hybrid movement, focused on facts, can fundamentally transform healthcare awareness and lift the society.
How is our idea unconventional & creative?
There are no dedicated media outlet options in India dedicated to developmental issues. Every such discussion is drenched in partisan politics, where development takes a backseat. Apolitical thinktanks, lack the needed level of on ground connections to collect information or channels to provide actionable intelligence to community for action. Thinktanks and research institutes, in addition to problem of systemic corruption, do not have media outlets of their own. We bring together citizens, healthcare providers, and scientists, which brings forward nuanced research, popular writing, local audiovisual media reporting, and national and international reporting through webseries. In addition to experts from India, we have tapped into several experts from international destinations too to bring forward this change. In addition to experts from India, we have tapped into several experts from international destinations too to bring forward this change.
The hypothesis of our proposal
The need for this company is that there several crises impeding the development of India, which are not averted due to the fact objective facts and data driven policy suggestions are not available, both to the public and the policymakers. We believe that a dedicated informed media, which focuses on developmental issues alone, without any partisan bias, can create a better society. Also, a ground level awareness is necessary for informed citizenry. As a matter of charter, unlike other thinktanks, we will not provide data driven insights in confidential manner to anyone. All our revenues and expenses are publicly available and on records through blockchain.
How will we implement it?
Starting October 1, 2019, we have already gathered a team of 200 plus physicians and scientists globally to start evaluating the healthcare needs of India. We plan to expand this network maximally, with objective of gaining 5K plus experts in six months period. In three months, we will start regular citizen meetings in local parks within NCR, Jammu region, and Chattisgarh, towards knowing their issues, instead of only relying on physicians and scientists. We have picked Jammu as a starting point to understand the challenges of Himalayan terrain, where access to medicine presents its unique challenges. The non-uniformity in hospital distributions also becomes a major difficulty in the hilly terrain. The inclement weather conditions makes communication very difficult in the region. The proposal aims to organize regular meetings and gatherings in the hilly terrains of Jammu to create awareness among the local population. This can finally lead to a better management of healthcare in these regions. The current proposal is by and large for media related expenses, and developing core team, with only a small fraction for the meetings.
We are a for-profit sustainable development company interested in shaping future by getting voices on healthcare, education, science, technology, entrepreneurship, and agriculture heard. Our model of revenue generation is our media outreach and small services we provide, where presently government is unable to do so. The need for this company is that there several crises impeding the development of India, which are not averted due to the fact objective facts and data driven policy suggestions are not available, both to the public and the policymakers. There is paucity of fact driven discussion on developmental issues in public sphere, which is dominated by political bias. We have decided to stay away from creating a not-for-profit because that fundamentally relies on political donations. Our insights will be all public. The ability of our effort to provide hyperlocal actionable information, along with bird’s eye view, should allow revenue streams from print, audio sources too. We intend to create local radio stations. All our revenues and expenses are publicly available and on records through blockchain. As a matter of principle, in foreseeable future, all revenues of the company will be re-invested back into further expansion efforts. We are working on providing services, such as healthcare to patients for nominal charges, instead of patients needing to travel large distances to obtain them. We are submitting those as separate proposal.
B) Quantitative evaluation of top 100 diseases through an AI-NLP-CV platform
We are performing quantitative evaluation of news for last 10 years, in terms of topics of coverage, depth, emotional content, ease of reading, along with temporal patterns and geospatial distribution, as a function of socio-economic factors of 100 diseases for leading dailies.
The essence of our idea
Our analytical pipeline involving scraping, machine learning, NLP, and computer vision will analyse strengths, lacunas, depth, coverage, geospatial and temporal information available to population. Our goal is to build an automated press and play pipeline for disease and healthcare analysis, which later expands to analyzing audiovisual media, research publications, informative websites, and social media too.
Why is our idea unconventional & creative?
We are merging state of the art artificial intelligence and data science with social science aspects of understanding awareness, with healthcare. This intersection of three different streams should provide a never before witnessed understanding of healthcare awareness.
The hypothesis of our proposal
This project will accomplish understanding top 100 diseases in English speaking world. This will lay foundation for such understanding of all possible diseases and in all major languages. We have already completed pilots on two diseases, processed millions of articles, and are ready to publish the work. On top of it, we have been able to build a global team (from North American, European, Middle Eastern, African, and Asian countries) of ~140 AI researchers working with us as citizen scientists, coordinated by 6 full-time researchers, based currently in Bangalore and Delhi.
The experimental plan
Our primary objective is to provide computational analysis of awareness of top 100 diseases. We will scrape articles from all leading dailies, then cluster and classify them. This will be followed by our NLP and computer vision pipeline. Subsequently, we will work on time series and geospatial analysis. We have already done this for HIV and alcohol addiction. In addition to analysis of different diseases, with each project, we will hammer our NLP and computer vision tools. Also, each disease comes with different key words. There are challenges of scraping news from sources, which do not provide active programmable interfaces, so we are working on that.
